Autumn Term
This half term we have lots of fun learning planned out and we love to see any learning linked to this at home too!
English
This half term we are focusing on a range of writing styles and grammatical features using the book "Queen of the Falls" to support this. We will be learning to use a range of punctuation, sentence types and planning structures. In Year 5 we are working really hard on our handwriting, ensuring it is all cursive, and that we’re checking our spelling is the best it can be too.
Shared Reading
In Year 5 we are working really hard on our retrieval and inference skills. We are also learning new skills to answer a range of comprehension style questions in our shared reading sessions. Our author of the term is Jacqueline Wilson.
Maths
This term we are looking at place value, addition and subtraction.
Topic – Geography Focus/ History Focus
Autumn 1- North America
Autumn 2- Anglo Saxons and Vikings
RE
This half term we’ll be looking at Loss, Death and Christian Hope.
Science
We are learning about Forces and concentrating on these objectives -
• Explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the
falling object
• Identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
• Recognise that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect
Art
It’s time to get creative with jewelery making. We will be looking at Rennie Mackintosh and designing and making our own jewellery.
PE
In PE we will develop our football skills and learning about health related exercise.
Music
In Music we will be learning to play either the clarinet or the trumpet.
Computing
We are going to introduce the children to the process of designing and creating interactive quizzes.
Spanish
This half term focuses on me and my friends at school.
Heartsmart
Get Heartsmart- We will be looking at different activities surrounding being heartsmart.
