This half term, we will also be carrying out regular SATs preparation and revision. Pupils will revisit key skills in reading, grammar and mathematics, take part in practice sessions, and receive targeted support where helpful. Our aim is to build confidence, strengthen understanding and ensure every child feels well prepared for the assessments later in the year.
English
In English, our core text will be Star of Fear, Star of Hope, which sensitively introduces themes of friendship and loss during WW2. This book will support pupils in developing their narrative skills through writing flashback stories, focusing on atmosphere, tension and character perspective. Later in the term, they will also produce a non-chronological report linked to our history learning, with continued emphasis on vocabulary, clarity and effective editing.
Shared Reading
We will focus on improving our comprehension skills and try to foster a love of reading through different texts.
Maths
In Maths, children will be learning about ratio, algebra and decimals, strengthening their understanding of number relationships, proportional reasoning and generalisation. These units will also give pupils opportunities to apply their knowledge through reasoning and problem-solving tasks.
Topic - History
Year 6 will begin an exciting new history unit titled “The Cause and Impact of Wars,” with a particular focus on World War Two. Children will explore the key events and significant individuals involved, considering the causes of the conflict, its global impact and its lasting consequences.
